SOLEDAD … oh yeah! Driving home in rush hour traffic after a long day at the office can be BORING … but not when you have a stash of Sahale Snacks in your car. I discovered these delicious little morsels of goodness while waiting in the check-out line at Farm Boy and they have now become my best friends …. especially when I have a sudden hunger attack (which happens often) and I need a quick and healthy pick me up.
Josh and Edmond are the creators behind Sahale Snacks and they have an interesting story. Two guys, climbing up Mount Rainier in Washington State … get hungry … boring trail mix … decide to go home to their kitchens and create something that actually tastes good! I imagine they had one of those Ahha moments and it actually worked! They took a chance, and with some great combinations of nuts, dried fruits, spices, creativity and marketing, they’ve been quite successful.
My fave is Soledad – inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean, with almonds, apples, and flax seeds, tickled with date, balsamic vinegar and cayenne. But how about combos like whole roasted cashews, paired with pomegranate infused apples, and a touch of pure vanilla bean or Valdosta Pecans – a classic taste of the American South with black-peppered pecans, sweet cranberries, and pinch of orange zest. I actually love them all!
About a week into my snacking, I was waiting in another check-out line at Canadian Tire – yep, you guessed it Sahale Snacks, but this time something completely different and truly out of the ordinary. Sahale Crunchers – Lightly-roasted almonds, mixed with grated Parmesan cheese, sun dried tomatoes and accented with a fresh herb blend of oregano, thyme and basil. They are awesome! I tried them on a salad with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic and they added that perfect bit of crunch with a real Italian spin.
Honestly, the best snack I’ve tried in ages and they are even good for you … Josh and Edmond have trademarked their motto – Beyond Ordinary – and I agree!
