Has travelling to India been on your radar? Intrigued by the culture, food and history of this ancient civilization? Insight Vacations takes you on an adventure with all the luxuries of an Indian Maharajah.
After living in South East Asia for many years, I’m embarrassed to say that I never made it to India. It’s the missing piece in my “Eat, Love, Pray” scenario. I’ve eaten with the Romans in Italy, succumbed to the lush beauty and culture of Bali but have yet to explore the mystical India of my dreams.
The “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 1 & 2” inspired so many of us boomers to fantasize about travelling (and even retiring) in India. Richard Gere definitely took the fantasy thing to another level! The colourful markets, enticing cuisine, fascinating rituals, Bollywood music, dance and romance … must I go on. I just love how Judy Dench does the Euro sari thing!
Enter Insight Vacations. Past my backpacking prime, I have to admit that a bit of luxury is rather enticing … especially for a country that can present a number of logistical and cultural challenges.
The Essence of India Tour covers what is known as the Golden Triangle – Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Home of the Mahatma Ghandi memorial at Raj Ghat, Delhi also boasts India’s largest Mosque built in 1650 and the bustling Chandi Chowk Market.
Agra showcases the infamous Taj Mahal built by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, to house the tomb of his favourite wife. The Taj Mahal is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and is universally admired as an architectural masterpiece and the jewel of Muslim art in India. Definitely on my bucket list!
Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan in Northern India and is known affectionately as the “Pink City” as it was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales in 1876. Jaipur has been consistently ranked 1st in TripAdvisor’s list of Indian destinations. The city was designed in 1727 according to Vastu Shastra, a traditional Hindu system of architecture that integrates architecture with nature. In Jaipur you will witness historical and cultural gems such as UNESCO site Amer Fort and Hawa Mahal or “Palace of Winds”.
With Insight Vacations you will stay at the Samode Palace, once the ancestral residence of the Royal Family and set in 20 acres of lush Mughal style gardens. Dining on fine Indian cuisine on a rooftop garden, you will also experience the folk dances of the Rajasthan.
If 8 days in India isn’t quite enough to satiate your desires for the exotic, then why not go for GOLD with the 21 day Insight Luxury Gold Grand Tour. From the desert landscapes of Rajasthan to the palmed fringed southern beaches and panoramic Kochi backwaters of the south. Finish off with magical Mumbai.
Kerala is one of my picks on this tour. Its renowned Ayurvedic treatments like Shirodhara, guarantee enlightment! Sunrise yoga at the Kumarakom Lake Resort anyone? I am not sure about you … but I have convinced myself that a vacation in India is just what my guru ordered.
I also love the fact that Insight Vacations does not partake in elephant rides on their tours as they view it as inhumane. I also love that Indo-Canadian born actress Lisa Ray is the spokesperson for Insight Vacations. Lisa was diagnosed with myeloma (blood cancer) and is presently living with this condition. After speaking out publically about her condition she has become an advocate for women suffering with cancer and an inspiration for women around the world, including India, where women suffering from cancer are often stigmatized. Way to go Lisa!
